During the meeting of the Committee for the European Union Policies held on July 5, 2017, it has been announced the proposal of four new amendments to DDL no. 2834 (i.e. the annual “European Legislation Implementation Act“), one of which aims to introduce a provision granting Government the power to align the Italian data protection legislation in force (namely Legislative Decree no. 196/2003) to the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The final approval of the aforementioned Act is expected within the summer (link).
